The People's Movie

I am a web programmer by trade and once in a while there is a cool project that I get to work on. And today I get the pleasure of launching http://www.thepeoplesmovie.com/.

The idea is a very cool one. They are making a movie where the genereal public are the movie producers. Anyone can sign up for free and be able to experience the process of movie making and actually contribute with decisions. For example, when they begin casting for the different roles, you can watch video clips and vote on who gets the part.

One of the coolest parts is that when you sign up you might be (pseudo)randomly selected to be an executive producer, which entitles you to a cut of the box office proceeds. ALL of the box office proceeds will be directly distributed to the participants.

So I am excited to see where this goes.

Concerning the Programming
I didn't do the design for it, but I did most of the programming. It was fun because I used the following technologies on the site: ASP, VBScript, Javascript, AJAX, XML, XSLT, CSS, ASP.NET, C#. And it was my first project that uses load-balanced servers.

Too bad "The People's Movie" wasn't a movie about how glorious communism is (like I thought it was going to be).

This sounds like Theater of the Life in the Man who knew too little. A film that isn't cinimatic steak, but fun like pez or gummy bears.
